DESCRIPTION:This course takes place on-site at JSC. Online participation i
s not possible. The course will be held in English.\nCourse Content:\nCryo
genics – the science of extremely low temperatures – serves as the inv
isible backbone of modern high-level research. Without the ability to cool
systems down to near absolute zero\, many of today’s scientific breakth
roughs would be impossible. From enabling superconductivity in particle ac
celerators and fusion reactors to stabilising qubits in quantum computers\
, cryogenics is the "enabling technology" behind many large-scale research
infrastructures.\nThis course explores the advanced techniques and techno
logies involved in building\, maintaining and troubleshooting cryogenic sy
stems\, as well as integrating them with quantum devices.\n\nMillikelvin t
 echniques: dilution refrigerators\, adiabatic demagnetisation\, pulse-tub
e systems\nAdvanced cryostat design: thermal anchoring\, radiation shield
ing\, vibration isolation\nVacuum technologies: UHV systems\, leak detect
 ion\, bake-out procedures\, troubleshooting\nCryocooler maintenance: puls
 e tube\, Gifford-McMahon (GM)\, Joule-Thomson (JT) expanders\; reliability
\, efficiency optimisation\nSystems engineering: integration with quantum
devices\, sensors and control loops\nFailure analysis: case studies\, ro
 ot cause analysis\, predictive maintenance\; hands-on repairs\n\n \n\n\n\
