DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Klemens Noga (ACC Cyfronet AGH)\, Oskar Klimas (ACC
Cyfronet AGH)\n\nThe training focuses on different ways to allocate resour
ces on supercomputers and parallelisation schemes used to speed up calcula
tions.\nModern supercomputers are massive parallel machines with up to hun
dreds of cores on a single node and even thousands of nodes connected via
fast network interface. To utilise those machines fully\, one needs to kno
w about parallelisation techniques and queuing system options of resource
allocation. This training will show different ways that Slurm allocates re
sources and how to apply them to different computations and workloads.\nLe
vel\n\nTarget audience\nTraining is intended for users who have started ru
nning their own calculations and need to learn about different methods of
allocating resources at ACC Cyfronet AGH. \nAgenda\n\nIntroduction - seri
al vs parallel\,\nprocesses\, htop and interactive access to a job:\n\npro
 cesses vs threads\,\nOpenMP vs MPI\,\nhybrid execution\,\nmpirun vs srun\;
 \n\n\nbinaries - OpenMP\, MPI\, both\, neither? - how to check app's libra
ries\,\nlimits of parallelism - matching execution to algorithm\,\nGROMACS
  - one application\, countless execution methods\,\naccelerating GROMACS w
 ith a GPU card\,\nQ&A (15 min).\n\nRequirements\nWe recommend participatin
g in this training after completing Running Calculations the HPC way train
ing provided at ACC Cyfronet AGH.\nSummary of prerequisites\n\nPLGrid acco
unt\,\nactive affiliation\,\naccepting invitation to resources at least a
day before training starts\,\nattending the Dry-run\,\ncomputer equipped w
ith SSH connection.\n\nPLGrid Account\nSpecify your PLGrid username in the
registration form. If you don't have an account\, please follow one of ou
 r guides: * https://guide.plgrid.pl/en/portal-for-science/profile\,* https
 ://guide.plgrid.pl/en/portal-for-business/account.\nAffiliation\n\nCheck s
tatus or activate at https://portal.plgrid.pl/users/affiliations.\nAny res
earcher affiliated with a Polish academic or scientific institution can ac
cess these resources free of charge. The process to obtain an affiliation
is fast and can be done through PLGrid Portal alone.\nFor participants fro
m industry\, business\, and commercial entities without an active commerci
al affiliation\, to speed up the activation process\, please contact us at
training@cyfronet.pl. We will grant you a short-lived affiliation for tra
ining purposes.\nThis course is co-funded by the European Union. Therefore
\, the course is open for participants from academia\, industry\, and publ
ic administration from the Member States (MS) of the European Union (EU) a
nd Associated/Other Countries to the Horizon Europe programme.\nIn case yo
u have problems\, obtaining an affiliation\, please contact the organizers
at training@cyfronet.pl.\n\nInvitation to resources\n\nCouple of days bef
ore the training\, Training Team will be sending invitations to resources
 in PLGrid Portal at https://portal.plgrid.pl/training_invitations.\nAccept
ing the invitation allows users to use the resources of the training grant
.\nMake sure to activate all the required services too (they are listed on
the page of the invitation). Use "participation in a training" as motivat
 ion if need be.\n\nDry-run\n\nOn 26th Oct 2026 at 10:00-11:00 CET\, a Dry-
run will be held. Attendance will be marked based on Zoom participant list
.\nParticipants will learn how to log in to the Ares supercomputer before
the training and resolve any problems with the Training Team.\nIn case you
cannot come to the dry-run\, please inform us directly at training@cyfron
et.pl\, otherwise your registration will be cancelled.\nPlease attend the
dry-run even if your affiliation is not active.\n\nSSH connection\nPartici
pants' computers should be equipped with software that allows SSH connecti
ons. On Windows\, it is recommended to use Windows Terminal (not to be con
fused with Powershell after checking if OpenSSH is installed (run ssh -V i
n the terminal). We advise against using Putty.\nVenue\nThe workshop will
be conducted online on the Zoom platform. The meeting link will be sent to
  registered participants.\nLanguage\nEnglish\nDuration\n3 hours\nRegistrat
ion and eligibility\nThe Registration and the Waiting list close automatic
ally at 23:59 CEST on 22nd Oct 2026. The Registration may close prematurel
y if the limit number of participants is hit beforehand\, but the Waiting
List will be available until the deadline above.  Please use this link to
  register:https://events.plgrid.pl/e/20261106-workloads\nPlease use your i
nstitution's e-mail address. Registrations using generic or private email
addresses cannot be accepted. At that e-mail address\, you will be contact
ed with further information.\nThis course is co-funded by the European Uni
on. Therefore\, the course is open for participants from academia\, indust
ry\, and public administration from the Member States (MS) of the European
Union (EU) and Associated/Other Countries to the Horizon Europe programme
